Can Daminion be integrated with Active Directory (AD)?
Yes. Daminion can be fully integrated with Active Directory or eDirectory. Active Directory groups can be mapped to Daminion User roles. You can also explicitly assign AD users to Daminion users individually.
Can I bulk edit metadata?
Yes. Daminion focuses on cataloging digital assets and offers several ways of doing this:
- Multiple tags can be assigned to multiple files in a batch via drag and drop, or by using our powerful Properties panel.
- Tag presets can automatically be assigned to files during the import process.
- You can use hotkeys to create tag presets to assign them to sets of files.
Can this system be used with an existing photo directory structure without moving files? We want to layer it on top of a shared folder.
Sure. Daminion Local version can import your media archive by file references whilst the actual files reside in their original locations. This is a common practice when Daminion Local is installed on a server PC and files are stored on a NAS or File Server.
Do you have a Mac version?
Mac users can work with Daminion via a web-browser (Chrome, Safari). Daminion Local version can also be used on Mac computers via the virtual tools like Apple CampBoot, Parallels Desktop, or VMWare Fusion.
The server part of Daminion is a Windows application, and it needs to be installed on a Windows PC, web-server, corporate cloud or Daminion Cloud.
Do you have automatic image tagging?
Yes. Daminion can also automatically retrieve and index а lot of side information from documents – things like image dimensions and media formats, dates and times, GPS coordinates, filenames, existing folder structure, license information, camera exposure information, the dominant color, image proportions, codecs, camera model and lens, etc… It can also read and parse XMP, IPTC-NAA, EXIF, a range of native metadata.
It supports 100+ media formats including images, vector images, video, documents, audio, etc…
If you need a more precise tagging, Daminion offers a number of manual batch tag editing tools that speed up the manual tagging process.

Is it possible to access Daminion Local via the Internet?
Yes. Daminion local can be accessed via the Internet in different ways:
- Opening ports on the corporate firewall
- Static IP
- VPN (hardware or software based)
- Daminion Local can also export files to Dropbox/OneDrive/GDrive folders that could then be used for file distribution
- You can also install Daminion Local on a web-server or consider the Daminion Cloud solution.
Is it possible to easily add photos from a smartphone?
Yes.
You can upload photos from your smartphone to Daminion Cloud (or Daminion Local installed on a web server).
Another way is to configure the Daminion Auto-Import folder using Dropbox/OneDrive/GDrive.

What integrations do you have?
Daminion WEB-API makes it possible to integrate Daminion with external systems, such as eCommerce or CMS systems such as WordPress or Drupal.
Apart from WEB-API, there are some integrations compatible with specific versions of Daminion.
- Daminion Local: any locally installed application can be invoked from Daminion Clients via the Open With or Edit With menus.
- Daminion can be integrated with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign) via Adobe CC Connector.
On metadata levels, Daminion can also be integrated with all systems that recognize XMP metadata (for example: Adobe InDesign can read XMP from files).

What is the storage limit and what is the storage space pricing?
Daminion Local: there are no storage space limitations because Daminion Server will be installed on your local storage where you manage allocation of the necessary resources.

One of the highlights for me of using Daminion has been the tagging and indexed searching, I have thoroughly enjoyed marking my imported photos with multiple categorical tags while naming them using custom naming patterns – after which I have the ability to toggle or filter the tags or multiple tags as well as search on any part of the name or the file’s metadata. Another highlight has been the support – I have followed the development of Daminion since its 1.0 version and have provided feedback with glitches, enhancement requests, or just plain asked how to do something: They have always replied and tried their best to provide a solution to my request whether fixing something right away and offering a newly compiled version to test or remoting to my workstation in order to experience the reported error. Truly a top notch approach to advancing their product and retaining customers (I do hope that never changes)
Daminion very flexible:
[1] allows to import all sorts of files: text files (like PDF), pictures, sound bits, movies… and retrieve them selecting whatever search option is convenient: import date, file type, keywords (tags)…
[2] a number of preset tags are useful, but Daminion allows user-defined tags too, which is helpful, in my case, to search e.g. for key topics, historical events, and animal species.
[3] support is very good: very responsive and helpful suggestions. I really appreciate the good communication. You’re communicating with a human, not a system.
[4] it’s small: the catalogue is just an ‘umbrella’, a file that remains fairly small (Mb’s) and I can still access the files through a File Explorer. Daminion does not modify the original files.
Other photo organizing programs make you sit through some serious lag time when you tag one or more photos. Daminion doesn’t. The stars pretty much pop right up! Creating tags is easy, and they can be copied from catalog to catalog. There’s some autofilling with tags that also speeds things up. Take heart, have hope: with Daminion, you will probably be able to tame your photo folders!
I like allot of the features the software has. I really like that it has the ability to group items together. I shoot in raw and jpeg and this allows me to group both of the files together as one.
Daminion gives me a fine nuanced possibiity to build a digital Archive for my DSLM-Images. Tag-trees can be arranged and created just to my needs. GPS-tagging ist made easy by the integrated Google-Map. With the fine Details of filtering and the usage of flags it’s only up to me to get the correct structure even with thousands of files.
The ease of use of adding files and migrating from one place to the next. It doesn’t mess with your file structure, but can still write meta into your originals.
Tagging with categories and people which is a must if you are in charge of an archive consisting of art works and historical photos.
Daminion really is powerful software that makes managing your photos very easy. It is intuitive to use and quite fast. It also detects duplicate photos based on customisable options. I quite like how you can use multiple search options to find photos, display photos on a map and geotag photos.
The product team really listen to their customers. I started using Daminion since its early stages back in 2011. From the beginning, the product team has always been opened to suggestions and feature requests. I think that is one of the best features of the Daminion business approach.
On the other side, the software is just amazing. High quality development makes it affordable to use with large collections without needing big hardware requirements. I’ve tested it with large media collections (more than 1 million items) on a normal PC and it responds smoothly.
Other thing I like a lot is that it uses a robust DBMS (PostgreSQL). That makes feasible to integrate with other systems/tools without too much trouble if you know a little bit of codig. NOTE: Daminion doesn’t recommend directly modifiying the database, but in my case I’ve found it pretty useful (and I try to be careful to not break anything).
