Initial setup
Before Daminion: Scattered References and Limited Access
Before implementing Daminion, DC8 Studio stored most of its project data on a shared network server. Accessing information about past projects was often difficult unless a team member had been directly involved.
The office even maintained a physical library of printed project books — reference volumes passed among several people. Locating the right one was time-consuming and frequently frustrating.
The goal was clear: to eliminate the need for physical reference materials and make all project visuals accessible instantly — whether from the office or while working remotely.

Frequently, our director would mention a project, and the individual would have to manually locate it, search for the drawings, and open the CAD files.
This process was time-consuming and much lengthier compared to the capabilities offered by Daminion.

Requirements and Selection
Finding the Right Solution
As an architectural practice, DC8 Studio needed a system that respected intellectual property while allowing internal visibility and quick reference to completed designs.
They handle a large volume of PDFs, graphics, and InDesign layouts used for client presentations and style references. The challenge was to make this content easily searchable — especially when meeting clients or working on-site.
The system also had to be efficient for users on the move — enabling quick searches through thousands of projects by keywords, design type, or visual characteristics.

The system also had to be efficient for users on the move — enabling quick searches through thousands of projects by keywords, design type, or visual characteristics.
Our priority was finding a solution that allowed us to have a visual representation — a quick snapshot such as a PDF — without needing to open large AutoCAD or Revit files.

Implementation and Results
How Daminion Helped
Before Daminion, when files couldn’t be located, team members sometimes recreated materials from scratch, wasting time and effort.
Daminion transformed this process by providing immediate, visual access to the studio’s collective knowledge base. Thumbnail previews and embedded metadata now allow users to identify project types, layouts, or styles in seconds.

The flexible search system lets users look up specific project attributes — for example, ‘three-bedroom house with a front garage’ — and find relevant files instantly.
As a result, DC8 Studio now leverages its existing data library rather than recreating designs from scratch, leading to measurable time savings and improved knowledge sharing across teams.
One of those hidden costs that often goes undocumented — the time and effort required to locate something when you’re uncertain where to start looking.
When someone opens the system to find a certain style of house or layout, the thumbnail visuals associated with PDFs make the process much more intuitive and efficient.
With a file structure of considerable size, spanning diverse content across numerous projects, having search results instantly at your disposal within seconds is truly invaluable.
The efficiency achieved with the help of Daminion is immeasurable.
