I evaluated several companies this weekend about their need for a Digital Asset Management (DAM) system. While some were only starting to investigate DAM, others were already good at independently managing their digital assets. Though the facts may suggest otherwise, here are five indicators you could believe you do not need a DAM system:
1️⃣ You handle thousands of assets effortlessly: You might not require a DAM system if you can manually manage 10,000+ digital assets without spending hours looking for files and you know exactly where everything is kept. Actually, most companies struggle with this amount and spend a lot of time searching for assets, hence a DAM system would be helpful.
2️⃣ Your team collaboration is flawless: Using basic tools, your staff of fifty plus people shares and retrieves assets with 100% accuracy. Version control is not problematic, and everyone has access to the most recent files always. Larger teams may find it difficult to sustain such accuracy in practice, hence a more solid structure is clearly needed.
3️⃣ You distribute and track assets with ease:If you can release thousands of digital assets to several teams and clients with a 99% success rate and monitor who visited each file without any mistakes, a DAM system seems superfluous since you easily distribute and track assets. Actually, though, this degree of accuracy is difficult to get without a committed system, particularly in cases involving many parties.
4️⃣ Your asset retrieval is near-instantaneous: If your team can find and access any asset from your 20,000 file collection in a few seconds, your asset retrieval is almost instantaneous and you might believe you do not need a DAM system. Maintaining such speed becomes difficult as the volume of assets increases, though; a DAM system greatly enhances retrieval times.
5️⃣ You have no issues with brand consistency: If you can guarantee that all of your digital assets—from logos to marketing materials—are used consistently across all channels and departments and without any variances, you might find a DAM system superfluous. Maintaining brand consistency at scale is challenging, though, and a DAM system helps to guarantee that every employee of the company makes use of the appropriate, current tools.
In essence, you can assume you don’t need a DAM system if you feel you can control all these factors entirely without one. For most businesses, however, the reality is different, so investing in a DAM system can help to guarantee compliance, simplify processes, and improve teamwork.
A DAM system could be the ideal forward move if you want to enhance your digital asset management and streamline your procedures.
