We are thrilled to announce the launch of Daminion 8.1, one of the best solutions in the Digital Asset Management (DAM) world, meticulously designed for creative and production teams!
The most recent update of Daminion comes packed with a host of substantial enhancements.
Major Improvements
1. Significant improvements in AI tagging
In our newest 8.1 version, we’ve enhanced the automatic tagging feature, giving you innovative tools to optimize and expedite your workflow. Here’s what’s new:
New Tag: AI Objects.
Daminion uses Artificial Intelligence to help identify and name the different things in a picture, like people, animals, objects, and more, making it easier for us to understand what’s in the image. While AI Labels provide more general descriptions or categories for the overall content of the image, AI Objects focuses on recognizing and naming specific things in a picture.
Increased Maximum Number of AI Tags.
Now, you can utilize an expanded number of AI tags to enhance the organization and retrieval of your digital assets. It was limited to 10 before.
Added automatic localization of AI tags.
Language barriers have now been broken down, broadening the accessibility of your content. Daminion utilizes Google Translate and the Google Knowledge Database for this purpose.
Tweak the score for AI Tags.
This lets you tell Daminion how accurate you want the tag recognition to be. You can choose to have fewer tags recognized but with high accuracy, or more tags recognized with a chance that some might not be correct.
Immediate AI Tagging
Added a new feature in the import window that allows you to start AI tagging for the files you’re importing right away.
These updates aim to improve your experience managing digital assets, making Daminion 8.1 a useful tool for creative and production teams.
2. Linking files in the web client
The new File Linking feature in Daminion’s Web Client simplifies collaboration by allowing users to link different types of files together.
For instance, a model photo can be linked to its corresponding release form, making it easier to keep related content and legal documentation together. Similarly, an InDesign document can be linked to all the assets used within it, making managing and accessing creative resources more efficient.
New File Format Support
- Added support for IGES and STP file formats. You can now import and work with IGES and STP files directly in Daminion using the Daminion 3D Extension. This lets you manage and organize your 3D models in the same system as your other files.
- Added support for Bip – Keyshot Scene format. With this addition, you can smoothly import and manage Keyshot Scene files in Daminion, simplifying the integration of your Keyshot projects into your asset management workflow.

Minor Improvements
Changes in the Web Client
- When all files are selected using ‘Select All’, the shared collection and upload functions become immediately available. However, for other functions, scrolling through all thumbnails is still required.
- Increase your efficiency when working in full-screen mode with JPEG files by enabling the generation of medium-sized previews during the import process.
Changes in the Desktop Client
- Introduced an option to update thumbnails only for those files where they’re absent. No more sifting through all files, saving you both time and effort.
- The interface for facial recognition has been significantly improved, enhancing responsiveness and ensuring a smoother, quicker user experience.
- Added an option to automatically confirm suggested faces, ideal for those who have previously tagged files without using Daminion’s Facial Recognition. This smart feature helps streamline your tagging process and ensures consistency across your digital assets.
Changes in Daminion Server
- Personalized Security: Daminion now supports custom username, password, and port number for PostgreSQL. You can even include special characters in your password for increased security.
- Enhanced User Control: Rescan and Import Filters are no longer restricted to Admin or Editor roles. Any user with appropriate rights can now configure these settings, facilitating greater team-wide control and flexibility.
- SVG File Display Fix: Resolved an issue where some SVG files were not displaying correctly, ensuring reliable, high-quality visual representation for all your assets.
- Web Quick Search Optimization: Results are displayed several times faster, helping you find what you need in a fraction of the time.
- Expanded Thumbnail Support: Daminion now generates thumbnails for older versions of Adobe Illustrator and for files saved without the ‘Create PDF Compatible File’ option.
Bug Fixes

- Fixed a bug where the path to the uploaded files was not saved when updating Daminion server to the new version.
- Fixed a bug where AD Users/Groups did not display tags in the thumbnail caption.
- Fixed a bug where a user with a legacy name added to the Active Directory group always received guest privileges.
- Fixed a bug where only 1080 files were displayed in the Shared Collection.
- Fixed a bug where search did not work on iOS if the Auto-Capitalization option was enabled in the keyboard settings.
- Fixed a bug where selecting faces in full-screen mode caused the application to close if a color profile is enabled for thumbnails.
