Daminion 8.4 Release. What’s New?

We’re excited to introduce Daminion 8.4, a premier solution in the realm of Digital Asset Management (DAM), thoughtfully crafted for creative and production teams.

The latest iteration of Daminion brings a multitude of significant improvements

Major Improvements

1. Improved Performance and Enhanced Stability

• NEW x64 multithread Media Processor: This enhancement leads to improved performance and greater stability. With the new Media Processor, quicker imports are possible through optimized utilization of CPU resources.

• Static Thumbnails: The static thumbnails have been implemented, resulting in faster rendering of thumbnails within the catalog and a reduction in server load.
• Deferred Preview Generation: This new feature accelerates the file import process within the catalog. Previews are now generated post-import, enhancing the workflow’s efficiency.
• Updater Service: Our newly-established Updater service actively monitors the catalog for thumbnails, previews, and mid-sized files. In cases of missing files, the Updater promptly generates them to ensure comprehensive coverage.
• Enhanced Metadata Reading: We’ve made significant improvements by addressing some bugs and incorporating enhancements. Our refined approach utilizes ExifTool version 12, ensuring more dependable and efficient handling of metadata.

2. Multiple Favorite Lists

Preselection of images has become more convenient with the introduction of multiple favorite lists. The “Favorites” feature has been rebranded as “My List,” empowering users to create multiple favorite lists for enhanced organization.

3. Improved Branding Settings in WEB

• Tailored Theme Customization: Users now have the capability to customize distinct colors for each theme, infusing a personalized touch. Moreover, users can set separate logos specifically for the dark theme, ensuring a versatile and individualized experience.

• Enhanced Color and Interface Matching: We’ve refined our algorithm, leading to enhanced color and interface matching that greatly boosts overall readability.
• Personalized Theme Selection: We’ve introduced user-specific theme switching, granting individuals the choice between their preferred dark or light theme.

4. New Format Support

• .Keynote: Keynote files can now be previewed without the need for FTS (Full-Text Search) capabilities.
• .Pages: Preview and FTS for Apple .Pages documents are now available. Please ensure you have LibreOffice 7.5 or higher to utilize these functionalities.

Minor Improvements

• Optimized Server Startup: The server startup process has been optimized and accelerated, resulting in shorter wait times.

• Watermark Tile Setting: The updated export preset now includes a “tile” option for watermarks, allowing users to replicate watermarks across an entire image.

• Enhanced Interface Guidance on the Web: Button hints have been added to the WEB interface, providing enhanced user guidance.
• Updated Settings Window Interface:The design of the settings window has been refreshed, offering users a more intuitive experience.
• Improved Auto Import Folder: Users can now copy entire folders, with the added benefit of files from these folders being automatically imported into the catalog via the Auto Import folder.
• AppData Client Installation: The Desktop client installation now takes place in the AppData directory instead of the ProgramFiles. This change removes the need for administrator privileges during installation.

Improvements in the WEB client

Map features have been improved

•  Significantly improved map loading speed when handling a substantial number of points.
•  Fixed a bug where the Show All Items At This Location command failed to display the results.

Interface Enhancements

The WEB interface has undergone a series of minor enhancements, contributing to an even more enriched user experience and improved usability.

Catalog Logo Visibility

The catalog logo is now consistently visible, even when the Filter panel is open, ensuring continuous and uniform branding.

Folder Selection in Fullscreen

A new button has been added for folder selection in full-screen mode, enabling users to view other files within the same folder.

Improvements in the Desktop client

Tag Management Bug Fixes

A few bugs related to tag renaming and merging in the right panel have been fixed, ensuring smoother tag management.

Concurrent Licensing

Users with concurrent licenses can now log in from two different PCs using a single account.

Internet Image Search

Due to changes in the Google API, the ability to conduct internet image searches has been removed from the available options.

Bug Fixes

• [WEB] Fixed a bug related to client hanging in the Safari browser when downloading/exporting large files.
• [Desktop] Fixed a bug with the Drag&Drop operations.
• [Desktop] Fixed a bug that was causing the tag order in the Tags panel to not be preserved when the displayed preset was changed by adding or removing tags.
• [Server] Fixed a bug related to the second login attempt failure for users from Active Directory groups.

Important Note

Starting from this release, the “Accelerated Preview” feature is enabled by default and cannot be disabled.
